We stole our dreams. We do it to ourselves everyday with every short termist decision we take. We do it when the political leader steals public funds to send his kids abroad rather than develop Nigerian schools for his great grand kids; when the keke driver exhausts his wages on ogidiga & prostitutes rather than save up to buy his own; when the middle class refuse to vote because “it won’t count” without realising that if done consistently, It’ll count in 2023 or 2027 or 2031; when the elderly woman collects a 10kg bag of rice to vote away the next four years of her community to hardship. That’s also why your friends warn you not to return. Because they know the hardship thay more likely than not awaits you in the short term but don’t consider that the country needs you & many like you to build its future for generations yet unborn. We do it every time we take a decision based on short term results/rewards without a thought to it’s long term consequences.
