I totally enjoyed reading this. While I agree that having a noble motive beyond just “wearing their shoes” is uber important when engaging in poverty tourism, I also don’t think there’s anything wrong with that motive being “to chronicle the lives of a certain people or events in a certain place”. It can also be important for information (information is power and through information, other sources of help can reach such people/communities) and history ( Remember, history only remembers the things we document and forgets 100% of the things we dont).

Finally, in doing this, I also think it’s important to genuinely care about them rather than be condescending or do it to feel good about ourselves. This important distinction often makes all the difference.
